In the past, I found it a little difficult to connect to the deities and scenes depicted in thangkas (Tibetan Buddhist paintings). Sometimes, the deities looked a bit mean or just remote. I thought they were beautiful, but the highly ornamented style was also not my taste. It took me a while to find my way in. Focusing on the forces the deities represented instead of the imagery transformed my relationship with them. I thought it would be fun to reinterpret them in a pop style to see if it made it easier to relate to them. This series is still in progress.
